Oven cleaner isn’t just for ovens anymore! It’s interesting to note the different uses we have for basic cleaners under our sinks. If you are looking for different tips to use around the house, keep reading. We’ll give you tips on what to use oven cleaner for and how you can clean off your hair appliances.
Oven cleaner- what you can use it for
Cleaning windows- Oven cleaner can be used to clean stains from your windows. Simply spray the glass, let the cleaner sit for about five to ten minutes, then carefully wipe it off. You’ll want to then re-wipe the window with regular glass cleaner for a beautiful, clean shine.
Sticky curling irons- Curling irons often get hair products stuck to the inside and outside of the rod. A bit of oven cleaner will clean off a curling iron in no time. Spray a little bit on the metal rod, wipe it down with a clean rag, and then wipe the rod back down with soap and water to get the cleaner smell off.
Sticky flat irons- Flat irons also build up a lot of gunk and stickiness from hair products. Again, oven cleaner will help get rid of anything stuck to the metal part. Simply follow the same steps outlined above for curling irons.
For really bad stains and build-up, let the oven cleaner sit for at least 30 minutes. Use a clean rag or a copper pot scraper to clean off the cleaner.
Additional tips for curling irons and flat irons
Rubbing alcohol- many people swear by rubbing alcohol when they need to clean off their curling irons and flat irons. Unplug the appliance and rub the metal down with 70% isopropyl alcohol on a cloth. The alcohol will dissolve the hairspray or other hair products that have become stuck to the iron.
Steel wool- For heavy-duty build-up, steel wool will do the trick. Carefully rub the appliance down with the wool and soap and water.
Lemon juice- Use the juice from one or two fresh lemons or use lemon juice concentrate to wipe down your curling or flat iron. The acid in the juice will help clean off the metal.
Shampoo- A small bit of shampoo on a wet cloth will help clean off a curling or flat iron.
Wet rag- Plug in the appliance and let it get as hot as possible. As it heats up, take a clean rag and wet it completely. Squeeze out the excess water and fold the rag up to avoid being burned. Unplug the appliance and immediately start wiping off the metal part with the damp rag.
Cleaners- If you have a Dollar Store close by, purchase their “Totally Awesome” cleaner and use it on your appliance.
