A shy girl Dorothy “Dot” Rhone, was from Liverpool, England. She was brought up by an emotionally distant mother and an abusive father. She was quiet and introverted, plus she thought her nose was way too big. It is a story that once she even tried to hook clothespin on her nose with the hopes that it might make her nose small.
Though one person thought she is gorgeous
But there was one person who thought she is gorgeous, his name was Paul McCartney. Back in 1959, when she was just 16, she attended a gig at the Casbah Club, which featured a teenage group who were known as The Quarrymen (the next year in 1960 the Quarrymen became Beatles). She struck a conversation with Paul McCartney, the band’s most handsome member, and the duo began dating.
Paul the dominant one
Because of Dot’s shy personality, it was easy for Paul McCartney to dominate her. He had also set some rules. Although Paul was allowed to see other girls, he didn’t let Dot see any other guy. Paul was a chain smoker, but no cigarettes for Dot. He forced her to dye her hair blond and made her wear short, tight miniskirts like his sexual fantasy girl actress Brigitte Bardot. Paul even told her how to do makeup. He was so dominant and controlling that he also told her to leave her girlfriends. Dot, madly in love with Paul, agreed to all his rules.
But Paul was also a caring person, and Dot often hung out at Paul’s house. She even told him about her sad childhood and life because she used to feel very comfortable around him. Paul also opened to her about his worst tragedy, his mother’s death.
Dot was so impressed by Paul’s generosity; he once shelled out several weeks of wages to buy her an expensive leather coat. For valentine’s day, Paul also gave Dot a special handmade card.
Dot got pregnant in 1961
Paul’s conservative father didn’t let Paul and Dot give the baby for adoption, and a wedding was planned. Paul bought his girlfriend an expensive gold ring, and they were ready to get married. But fate had something else for them, and Dot miscarried. The wedding was called off.
Dot could never forget the sight of Paul McCartney bringing her flower and comforting her after he got the news about the miscarriage.
Dot became friends with John Lennon’s love interest, Cynthia Powell. Cyn always called Dot as a gentle soul who always blushed. The two would go on to watch their boyfriends play at local clubs around Liverpool.
The Breakup
In the summer of 1962, the Beatles were getting famous nationwide, and Paul decided to break up with Dot.
Cyn remembered the sad night; it was an only girls night hang out, and no guests were expected. Dot was wearing a baggy sweater. Out of nowhere, Paul came on the door and told Dot that their three-year relationship was over. He left, leaving Dot in complete shock.
The reason for their breakup has never been clear. People say Dot was pressing for marriage, but Paul wasn’t ready. It took months for Dot to recover, but she wasn’t able to fully forget him, so she decided to move to Canada, where she met her future husband.
