It doesn’t take long for things to go viral on the internet. Sometimes those things make sense like when everyone takes up a strange idea as there is some charity being supported behind it all. Sometimes those things make no sense like when the baby shark video was being played forever, although looking back I can only remember it being stuck in my head and I can never remember when it was played. In the kitchen, new dishes are constantly created by people online and some of them take off. While the whipped coffee was a recent craze it is already being replaced by whipped strawberry.
It is easy to track the lifecycle of these fads as Google Trends shows the analysis of search terms across the internet. March 15th was when people started to search about whipped coffee and it peaked on April 5th. To date, it is still getting a high amount of searches but is in a slow decline. As whipped coffee declines though there is a notable increase in searches for whipped strawberry. So what are these things and should you care?
First of all no it is not a misbehaving coffee or strawberry in a land where medieval punishment still reigns. Whipped coffee is a drink where you put three simple ingredients into a glass and whisk them quickly to make a frothy coffee delight. The three ingredients are equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. If stirred vigorously enough these ingredients will transform into a frothy coffee with a lovely whipped texture.
People who were missing their coffee fix during the coronavirus crisis turned to the whipped frothy wonder to satisfy their strange coffee urges and none were left disappointed. If you haven’t tried it, go to the kitchen now, we will wait. The drink is as delicious as it looks on the internet and incredibly simple to make.
Since it went viral people have been altering the ingredients slightly to make new and bold flavors. One of the biggest hits was whipped matcha but to be totally honest that required too much effort and with summer arriving, whipped strawberry is far more appealing.
To make a drink of whipped strawberry you will need a strawberry milk mix (we use Nesquik because it gives us that lovely childhood nostalgia boost but you should pick whatever you like) and four tablespoons of whipping cream. Throw them both in a glass and mix it as vigorously as you can. It is important to really mix it hard and fast or you won’t achieve that lovely whipped texture or even worse you will be left with some of that pink powder in your glass. Once whipped pour over half a glass of cold milk and enjoy.
If you are feeling even braver you could make the strawberry milk from scratch using real strawberries. This is a great idea if you are looking for a healthier alternative and have time on your side. To do this right you will need around 8 strawberries and one-quarter cup of sugar (ok so not that healthy). Simply heat your smashed strawberries with the sugar until it turns into hot syrup, then repeat the steps from earlier.
The drink went viral because people have more time at home and are missing some of the creature comforts we have become used to. Whether you are missing your weekly trip to Starbux or not, this is worth your time. There are plenty of flavor options to suit everyone, it is easy to make, and it is incredibly satisfying. Have a go today and let us know the results.
