Life is filled with challenges and this is something that everyone must eventually accept. In fact, sometimes things get so difficult that what you’re trying to accomplish feels impossible. While it’s best not to use words like ‘I can’t,’ there are times when these very words describe how you feel. Consider the information below whenever you feel like you can’t do something.
1. Importance of knowing ‘why’
Why do you choose to wake up every morning and get started on your day? For some people, it’s because they have bills to pay, while others truly want to make a difference in the world. When you’re trying to accomplish something, it’s important to know why. By simply defining your ‘why,’ you can call upon that reason for motivation when things get tough. In most cases, wanting to make money isn’t reason enough to move forward when things get really hard.
It’s best to write down your why so that you can read it on difficult days. You can even post it on a wall as a reminder of the reason you choose to overcome obstacles, no matter how difficult they become. This is an exercise that can help you move forward when it feels impossible.
2. Always be persistent
Persistence is something that a lot of people talk about, but don’t always know how to put in action when it’s needed most. When you’re persistent, that means you’re capable of continuing even after a failure or during times of serious hardship. Struggling through an obstacle requires perseverance and that’s often how you will eventually achieve success. Some of the best things in life are on the other side of struggle. When you’re in the midst of a difficult situation, remind yourself to persevere no matter what happens.
3. Learn to handle discomfort
A lot of people are accustomed to being comfortable and some people give up even when there’s only a slight amount of discomfort. A characteristic of maturity is learning that discomfort is a normal part of life. It’s also important to understand that just because something is uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s bad. For instance, building muscle requires you to lift weights which isn’t comfortable. You can use that same analogy when building character. It requires you to endure hard times to become the person you want to be. Also keep in mind that very little is accomplished when you stay in your comfort zone.
4. Be honest about challenges
It’s easy to ignore difficulties and challenges when you don’t want to deal with them. Unfortunately, this can often exacerbate the problem. One of the best things you can do is be honest about challenges that exist and address them head on. Putting things off only makes them worse and more difficult to resolve down the road. By acknowledging that something is a problem, you can actively seek a solution.
In addition to the tips provided, always remember that your attitude about what’s happening is critical. It’s imperative that you maintain an optimistic point of view. When you look on the positive side of things, you’re more likely to achieve your goals.
